Many children, particularly by the time they are in secondary education can be reluctant to go to school and attendance can quickly slip below an acceptable level. All children below the age of 16 must attend full time education by law therefore as a parent it is your legal responsibility to ensure that they attend.
Of course there will be the occasional day when your child cannot attend due to illness or an unavoidable appointment but it is important that you emphasise the necessity of regular attendance to your children to set a good example.
If you are struggling with getting your children to attend school then it’s always best to contact the school so that you can work together to develop an attendance plan and so that they know you are aware of the issue.
Children with poor attendance often suffer when it comes to exams as they miss out on the continuity of lesson and can struggle with understanding subjects so it really is essential that children attend school when ever possible.
