Are you stuck in a job you really don’t enjoy?

Working is something that most of us wish we didn’t have to do some much of but often something we must do in order to pay the bills. There are so many people who are unhappy in their current job but often feel they cannot take the risk in leaving to find something else. Many of us have had to take a position within an company due to financial commitments or maybe they were pushed in to a family run business that is not really what they wanted to do. It may be that initially they enjoyed the job but the role has changed or the way the company is run, meaning that they no longer get the job satisfaction they used to.

Staying in a job that is making you miserable and gives you little or no satisfactions is not helpful to anyone, not only be detrimental to the company but can have a negative effect on your mental wellbeing.

If you find that you are in a position where you are not enjoying your job anymore then why not speak to a recruitment agency or the local job centre to see what other positions you would be qualified for.

Using social media to find a job

If you are currently looking for work then you may not realise that you can use social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to find vacancies you may be interested in applying for. When looking for work you need to try and explore several different avenues to give yourself the best possibly chance and this is done by applying for a greater number of jobs.

Facebook allows you to search for jobs easily by entering the term jobs into the search box. This will instantly pull up a list of job vacancies that have been listed through Facebook and allow you to click through on the link to find out more about it and even apply. The listings will often show how long it has been advertised for, if you are the first person to apply through Facebook, salary and a job description. Before clicking to apply for the job you need to ensure that you have your CV ready. Also be careful when applying directly through social media sites as this means the employer has then got easy access to your social media profile, some of which you may not want a potential employer to see. Instead try and find out the contact details for the job application and email them directly.

Dealing with anxiety over finding work

Many people worry about how they are going to find work following completion of an educational course such as a degree, loss of a previous job or returning to work following a break in employment.

Recent research suggests that there has been a huge increase in employability anxiety over recent years and this hits students more so than other groups of people. Often students rack up a lot of debt whilst working towards their degree or qualification. Once they have completed this, they need to try and find work as soon as possible so that they can start earning a living. Although you will not have to pay back student loans until you are earning over a certain amount, if you have personal debts such as credit cards or loans, you will need to ensure you are making the payments towards these immediately.

Students often describe the feeling of employment anxiety as a knot in their stomach to a full blown anxiety attach with leaves them struggling for breath and feeling extremely over whelmed. Building a support network at university can really help. You will probably have a good number of your friends who are feeling exactly the same and sometimes just talking about it can make the situation seem a lot better.

Being an effective leader at work

You may already be in a management role at work or be looking to be promoted in to one soon. As a manager you will often have responsibility for a team of other workers and may have to manage workloads and budgets. So what makes a good manager? There are so many different ways to manage a team of workers that it can be hard to put your finger on exactly what works and what doesn’t.

Moral is very important when it comes to increasing productivity. A happy workforce is often a very productive one. Research shows that what makes is a good manager is often linked to how flexible they are and how they can adapt to different situations. As a manager you will have to often make quick decision but also ensure you are being fair. You need to be assertive but also know how to listen to other people’s views and opinions.

Different management methods are required at different times. For example, if you have an emergency order on your hands you may need to get your team to work quicker or for longer hours. Often this can be achieved by giving them perks such as bonuses or buying lunch for everyone.

If you have a member of your team who is constantly failing to meet standards then you may need to take a harder approach and give them a stern warning.

What is the recruitment process for employers?

If you are a business owner and looking to employ more staff, you will have to go through a recruitment process in order to find the right candidate.  This can be quite time consuming but the more thorough you are, the more likely you are to find the right person for your company.

Not all companies use the same methods for recruiting staff. Some choose to advertise it themselves and carry out the recruiting process in house where as others chose to outsource the recruiting to an agency. Using a recruitment agency is going to cost more upfront but it can take a lot of the stress out of the process and can cut down on time that other staff members have to spend analysing CV’s and interviewing.

Most recruitment agencies will look at all applicants first and even conduct a mini interview over the phone to see if they are suitable. They will check through their CV and check what experience they have that may be useful. If they feel that they have the right skill set for the job then they will contact their client and ask if they would like to invite them in for an interview.
