Do you have too many staff?

During lockdown and the pandemic as a whole, many companies struggled but some actually did really well and found that they needed to take on extra members of staff. With the recent worry of the War in Ukraine and the increased cost of living – some of those businesses are now noticing quite a steep drop in business and many still have the extra staff that they took on in 2020 – 2021 to cope with the increase in demand.

As a business owner, often you have to make the hard decision to let some members of staff go but before you do have a think to see if their skills could be utilised in another way. Maybe you do not have a need for them in the current role they are in but could you perhaps have a different role that needs filling that they could step in to. It may be that you need help in other parts of the business or that you have always wanted to explore other avenues within the trade but have not had the resources to do it. If this is the case, then it may be worth changing their role – keeping them employed whilst also helping the business to grow.
